The best gaming keyboard isn’t necessarily the one that fit best with your hand, the room you’ve got on your desk, and what kind of games you mainly play. We’ve reviewed what style of mechanical keyboard is best for you so far, so that is worth checking out just to see whether or not you need a full-sized, TKL, or sixty percent optical surface keyboard, but since that is locked in, the rest of the world is your living-room touch-typer.
If you’re dead-set on having a full sized mechanical keyboard, but you are on a limited budget, then cheap membrane-type keyboards and mice are perfectly acceptable. For those of you on a budget, you may also prefer to try media-button combinations, optical switches, membrane-switch contact-lugs, and so forth. Once you get a feel for what works best for you, though, you can always expand and experiment with other types of switches.
The best gaming keyboards are also going to depend upon the type of game you plan to play most. For example, if you are planning on role-playing a warrior in an MMORPG, then it would probably be pretty difficult for you to play using a standard keyboard and mouse, because you’ll be surrounded by enemies a lot more than with an FPS game. In this case, what you’ll need is something with macro keys, hotkeys for spells and abilities, and so forth. The best gaming keyboards will make sure that all of these functions are easy to use, so you can focus on how to play instead of focusing on how to type.
